Last Thursday we had a pair of very special visitors come to school from Crystal Palace FC. James McArthur, who plays for Crystal Palace and the Scotland national team, and Jaïro Riedewald from Crystal Palace’s first team came to have a look around, answer some questions from our children and meet our girls and boys’ football teams.
The two players answered questions from children in Years 3-6 such as “how many matches have you won?”, “what did you do to become a professional footballer?” and “how many goals have you scored?”.
Our questions clearly got James McArthur to thinking about scoring a goal, as on Saturday, he went on and scored for Crystal Palace when they played Everton at Selhurst Park. Our children would like to think that they can take some credit for inspiring him a couple of days before the match!
It was really great and inspirational to have two such successful role models here at Selsdon Primary, so huge thanks to Crystal Palace FC for providing us with this opportunity.
We hope that our football teams take this inspiration into their upcoming matches and replicate the skill and determination that these two showed to get to the top of their game! With two matches coming up next week, we hope that our teams will heed James and Jaïro’s advice.
