Community Resources for Families: Teacher Strikes Tomorrow

With the school closed tomorrow, we are aware that some families rely on the hot meal provided for children at lunch time and a safe space for their children. For this reason, we’re providing some details to help families in need during the school teacher strikes tomorrow.

Firstly, the community hub at Heavers Farm is open today – if you are in need of basic food and household items, families from Selsdon Primary are welcome to come and collect from the Heavers Farm Community Hub & Food Bank. We do recommend that families come and collect items today, so that they are well-stocked for tomorrow’s strike day.

There is a local food bank: ‘The Vine’ run by the Salvation Army in New Addington. If you are in need, the school can make referrals to the food bank so that you can pick up. More information is available here: https://www.salvationarmy.org.uk/new-addington

In other parts of Croydon, there is help available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, to support with the impact of the strikes:

South Norwood Community Kitchen run their ‘SNCK community caff’ Monday-Friday 9am-3pm. This is a pay-what-you-can café based at Socco Cheta on Portland Road. This is an affordable way to get breakfast and lunch for your family.
