Black History Month

We are excited to announce that our whole school focus on Black History Month is about to start. We celebrate this every year in our schools; we work with Bigfoot Arts Education, who help us celebrate this annual occasion with workshops and assemblies which help children to learn about African and Caribbean culture, traditions and achievements.

This year the theme for the assemblies and workshops for children in Years 1 to 3 is  ‘Jazz’s Jukebox looking at how music genres steeped in Black History transcend all cultures and generations. Reception children will also join us for this assembly.

The theme for Years 4 to 6 will be ‘All Aboard the Empire Windrush‘ focusing on a child, Clinton, and his Mum, Grace, as they wave goodbye to their homeland and prepare for a new life in post-war Britain.

After the assembly and workshops, teachers will continue this work over this half term. so that the children can continue to explore these topics in class.

At the end of this term we will be inviting parents and family members into class to look at the work that the children have completed on Black History Month.
