Thought For The Week!

We have an extra special TFTW this week! It’s more of a competition than a thought, but it’ll definitely require everyone to think really hard and get their brains in gear.

As of next term, we’re going to change the house names to reflect the heroes and role models for our children across both our schools. This will not affect your house colours/PE t-shirts, which will remain the same, but you will have some funky new house names!

So, the rules for your suggestions are:

  • The person must be a hero or role model linked to the curriculum.
    • Examples are a writer, poet, scientist, mathematician or sportsperson. But it could be related to any subject you learn in school.
  • You must provide a reason for your choice, tell us why they are a role model to children and what they have done to earn this place.
  • Either leave a comment on the blog with your choice or hand in your choice to your class teacher.

All classes will be discussing this in our reflection time this week, so you will have a chance to think about it then!

We’re very excited to hear your suggestions!

  1. My choice would be Christine Ohuruogu, who is a really awesome British athlete, she has won the Olympics, World Championships and Commonwealth Games in the 400m.

We all know I love running, so I had to choose a runner. I think she is a fantastic role model since she was the first British woman to win all three global titles! A great role model for any of our aspiring Olympians in the school!

    Attie.

  2. I think David Beckham for house name. He is an outstanding sportsman who has over the years inspired many young children. Although retired he has done so much for charity and is a wonderful role model .and he has also represented England many times.

  3. I am so pleased that Selsdon is choosing new house names because I was always sad that the only female role model was Florence Nightingale – a rather old-fashioned idea of what girls should aspire to even if she was a great lady!

On this theme, I would choose a female scientist like Helen Sharman who was the first British person to go into space! She was only 27 when she went on Mission Juno and during the mission, she communicated with school children in the UK to inspire them! She is also a heroine because she used her chemistry knowledge to make chocolate taste better!

  4. I think Dickens should change to Roald Dahl. I love his books and he is a very famous author. He has written some of the most famous children’s books. Millie. Porpoise class

  5. I think Picasso house should be changed to William Shakespeare, because he was the most popular dramatist and poet the Western world has ever produce and the most remarkable storyteller and his wonderful plays have been performed all over the world.and inspired new writers.

  6. think Picasso house should be changed to William Shakespeare, because he was the most popular dramatist and poet the Western world has ever produce and the most remarkable storyteller and his wonderful plays have been performed all over the world.and inspired new writers.

  7. Sir Isaac Newton should be one the houses name, he was a physicist, mathematician, astronomer and philosopher originator of universal gravitation and laws of classical mechanics and laws of motion. HIs Principia is one of the most influential works in the history of science.

  8. I think Colonel Blood should be one of the houses, he attempted a daring and very brave robbery to steal the most valuable items in England, possibly even the WORLD, which he is imfamously known for.

  9. Stag class suggestions… there were great reasons given for most role models, but here is a summary…
Howard Carter – Archaeologists who found Tutankhamen’s Tomb and helped us to learn so much about the Ancient Egyptians
Usain Bolt – Great athlete, and kind man
Jessica Ennis – fantastic sportswoman and a great inspiration to the girls!

  10. Whilst we discussed a variety of role models, most suggestions from Badgers class in Year 1 were authors! I have included the reasons they gave me.
. Julia Donaldson for writing stories like the Gruffalo which were rhymes as well.
. Roald Dahl for writing good stories that were made into films.
. J K Rowling for writing Harry Potter which was also made into a film.
. Benjamin Zephaniah because he writes funny poems.

The other suggestion was Henry VIII because he had an interesting life.

  11. For Mozart J. K Rowling because many people should like her work and the stories that she makes. I especially love her books called Harry Potter.

  12. For nightingale it should be Steven Hawking because he became a great scientist although he was disabled
that shows that nothing can hold you back.
